Adoption

Considering adoption?

Adoption is an option to consider during an unexpected pregnancy. Each year thousands of women in America choose to place their child for adoption.

Is it the right thing for me?

Each woman’s decision is based on their own reasons. Some common reasons why a woman might choose adoption are the following:

  • There is a focus on career or schooling
  • Financial support for prenatal and labor costs
  • Current situation is not safe or stable for a child
  • Not in a financial position to care for a child
  • Did not want to become a mother or parent a child
  • Decision that abortion or parenting is not the right decision

Types of Adoptions

Closed Adoption

A closed adoption is where no information or contact is shared between the adoptive parents and the birth parents. In the past, almost all adoption in the US were closed, but today, most adoptions have some level of openness as decided by the birth parents and the adoptive parents.

Open Adoption

An open adoption is where the adoptive and birth families share identifying information and have contact with each other during and after the adoption process.

No two open adoptions are the same and can vary widely in the types and amount of contact shared between parties.

Semi-open Adoption

This is a type of adoption where the birth parents and the adoptive parents maintain some level of contact, usually through a third party like an adoption agency, exchanging non-identifying information like letters, photos, or updates about the child’s life without revealing their full identities to each other.

This allows for some connection while maintaining a degree of privacy for all parties involved.

HiPeak Health is not an adoption agency, but we can help you look at the different options available and connect you with an agency.
